Green raw materials?! Why we should think together about the energy and raw materials transition

19. May 2022 @ 15:00 - 15:45

Hannah Pilgrim of PowerShift speaks at Public Climate School 2022

What do news of human rights violations in mines in the Global South have to do with the energy transition in Germany? Why does the mining and processing of ores account for a quarter of the world's carbon emissions? And what must be done in Germany to prevent injustices in the international use of raw materials?
We talk about this with Hannah Pilgrim, coordinator of the AK Rohstoffe, who shows us what a socially and ecologically fairer raw material policy can look like.

Speakers:

Hannah Pilgrim (M.Sc.) studied social sciences and human geography in Cologne, Bergen and Bonn and now works at PowerShift as a consultant for raw materials policy. Here, it is committed to a globally fairer and more democratic raw materials policy. She is also coordinator of the Working Group on Raw Materials, a network of German non-governmental organisations.tionen (which includes Bread for the World, BUND and PowerShift). Together, the organizations are committed to adhering to human rights and ecological standards along metallic-mineral raw material supply chains.
