Digging Deeper into the EU’s Strategic Projects: Implementation of the Regulation
12. December 2024 @ 14:00 - 15:00

This panel delves into the EU’s Strategic Projects framework under the CRMR, examining its environmental, social, and systemic implications, with a particular focus on mining and raw materials extraction, and the sustainability needs for a good implementation. Panelists will present insights from grassroots communities, indigenous groups, and impacted regions in Europe, highlighting the lived experiences and long-term consequences of these projects. In addition to exposing these impacts, the discussion will explore systemic solutions such as circular economy principles, demand-side management, and emerging measures. By introducing key reports and fostering dialogue, the session aims to provide concrete guidance on how the EU can implement strategic projects that prioritize environmental justice, human rights, and community inclusion. The conversation will also address the role of policymakers and industry in creating a transparent, equitable framework that aligns with EU environmental goals and the rights of affected Indigenous Peoples and local populations.
